What is laser lipolysis?

Currently, the offer of plastic surgery clinics provides for a number of procedures aimed at reducing adipose tissue. In addition to classic liposuction, there is also laser liposuction, sometimes referred to as laser lipolysis. Although this method is slightly more expensive, it is non-invasive, safe and effective. What is laser fat removal and who will benefit from it?

What is laser lipolysis?

Laser lipolysis is a process of removing fat accumulated under the skin using a special device – a laser equipped with a fiber optic tip with a diameter of only a few hundred microns. Such a needle is inserted through the skin, and the radiation emitted by it breaks down adipocytes (fat cells).

Damage to fat cells involves the breakdown of triglycerides stored in them into glycerol and fatty acids. Adipocytes lose stored fat, which is converted into metabolites and removed from the body. Fatty acids can also be used as a fuel for energy metabolism in the body.

Laser lipolysis is used in different areas of the body. Laser liposuction of the abdomen allows you to get rid of stubborn folds and flanks and firm your figure. The procedure is also performed to remove fat tissue from the area of the thighs and buttocks, hips, arms and chin.

An emphasized advantage of lipolysis is the lack of the need to cut the skin and long-term convalescence.

Is laser liposuction safe?

Laser liposuction is considered to be a much safer method of fat removal than classic surgical liposuction. However, it should still be remembered that the procedure may be associated with various complications. What should you pay attention to when choosing a plastic surgery clinic?

First of all, you should rely on qualified and experienced staff who have carried out this type of treatment many times. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the qualifications of a plastic surgeon or aesthetic medicine doctor in advance. It is advisable for the clinic to have appropriate certificates confirming the experience of the staff.

The candidate for the procedure should receive comprehensive information on the course of liposuction and potential complications, so that his expectations are realistic and the consent given is informed.

The procedure itself should be carried out in controlled, sterile conditions, so that in the event of any health problems, immediate medical assistance can be provided.

Most clinics provide their patients with support also at the post-operative stage. It includes medical consultations in the field of skin care, physical activity, and possible supplementation. If the clinic you have chosen does not provide such assistance, it is worth looking for another clinic.

Laser liposuction – effects

The effects of laser liposuction depend on many factors, including the patient's age and health, the initial level of body fat, the condition of the skin, as well as the skills of the doctor performing the procedure. Usually, you can count on:

  • reduction of adipose tissue – the procedure leads to remodeling of body contours, slimming of the figure and elimination of cellulite;
  • improving the condition of the skin – breaking down fat tissue requires controlled damage to the skin. The treatment stimulates the secretion of collagen, a protein that forms connective tissue, which is incorporated into the area of the body that is treated and removed from the body.
and some of the imperfections.

It is worth remembering that liposuction may leave loose, sagging skin in the areas affected by the laser. In order to reduce this effect to a minimum, it is recommended to supplement the breakdown of fat cells with the so-called thermolifting. It is designed to tighten the skin and make it firmer.

The advantage of laser liposuction is quick recovery and minimally visible scars or no scars. Patients recover from surgery much faster than traditional surgery. In most cases, they are able to return to activity the same day. Temporarily, however, moderation should be maintained in the selection and intensity of physical exercise.

Classic side effects include bruising and swelling as well as redness of the treatment site. Patients who do not follow the recommendations for hygiene sometimes develop skin infections. If the treatment is not performed thoroughly, irregularities may be temporarily visible on the surface of the skin, which will disappear over time.

It should be noted that while the effects of laser liposuction are permanent in the sense that the adipose tissue is broken down, it will still be necessary to change your habits. After the procedure, it is recommended to supplement the daily routine with physical activity and implement a healthy, balanced diet. This will allow you to keep the body fat content at a sufficiently low level and contribute to firming your figure. Hydration is also important.

Laser liposuction – contraindications

Laser liposuction is a safe procedure, although it is not recommended for selected groups of patients. First of all, it should not be performed on people:

  • severely overweight or obese,
  • with blood clotting disorders,
  • patients with diabetes,
  • with skin problems and infections,
  • with diseases of the immune system.

Laser lipolysis is also not performed in pregnant and lactating women.

In all these cases, a prior medical consultation is suggested. It may turn out that instead of laser liposuction, another body plastic surgery will work better.

Is laser liposuction effective?

Laser lipolysis can prove to be an effective method of reducing body fat if used properly. It is estimated that after one visit you can lose up to a dozen or so centimeters around the waist, although this is an individual matter and depends on many factors.

There is no doubt that the treatment is most effective if it is combined with a healthy lifestyle.
